Industrial Membranes

Membrane filters are the most important component in industrial water purification systems. In fact, industrial membrane filters are a semi-permeable membrane for separating various impurities and chemical contaminants in water, such as nitrite, arsenic nitrate, which removes these substances by about 99.5%.

Due to the extraordinary capabilities of industrial membrane filters, it can be said that these filters provide a high degree of purity to the water output of industrial water treatment devices by removing salts present in water up to 0.0001 microns of water that is ultimately purified. In addition, membrane filters for industrial water purification and purification are classified into different types, of course, based on the analysis of the incoming water and the capacity of the water treatment device.

It should be noted that the higher the level of salts and hardness of the water, such as that observed in seawater, the greater the pressure exerted by the water treatment device on the industrial membrane filters of the device. Based on the aforementioned classification, industrial membrane filters are known in two categories: industrial and marine. The main difference between these two types of filters is the pressure tolerance of the filters and the amount of water produced and output by the device. In fact, the amount of pressure exerted on the filter is related to the level of salts and hardness of the water. Of course, the greater the hardness of the incoming water, the greater the pressure exerted by the water on the membrane.

Types of Industrial Membrane Filters

Industrial water purification membranes are classified into different categories based on the type of water entering the purification device:

Filters used to purify seawater in desalination devices

Filters used to purify saline well water or city water in industrial devices

Industrial membrane filters are available in 2 models in the Iranian market: 4-inch membrane filter 8-inch membrane filter. Of course, there are other types of membrane filters that are not available in the Iranian market.

Important points in the use of membrane filters

After water enters the purification device and membrane filter, the chlorine in the water must be removed with the help of carbon or injection, otherwise it will seriously damage the filter.

When the reverse osmosis system is not used for a long time, the membrane must be maintained and protected with appropriate detergents and preservatives.

Before inserting the membrane filters into the operating system and into the production line of the purification device, make sure that the various parts and components of the water purification and desalination device are calibrated, especially the sealing of the device.

After the first stage of using the industrial membrane filter, the filter must be kept moist at all times.

It is necessary to know that membrane filters have the ability to remove suspended particles or TDS.

Since membrane filters only allow pure water to exit after separating salts and water hardness, after a while the membrane surface becomes covered with impurities and the pressure applied to the pump of the purification device increases, and on the other hand, the production of pure water naturally decreases. If you notice a 10% decrease in pure water production in the water purification device, the membrane should be washed with its own special antiscalants. The increase in deposited materials on the filter indicates the time for the membrane to be washed. The water entering the device should be in the range of 2 to 12 acidic-alkaline. The temperature of the incoming water should not exceed 45 degrees Celsius. An increase in temperature can cause damage and destruction to the membrane of industrial membrane filters.

Industrial Membrane Filter Malfunction

The most common failures in the water treatment system and industrial membrane filters occur for the following reasons:

Incorrect internal design in the water treatment system

Inadequate membrane filter

Low quality of the pre-treatment section of the devices

Poor quality or non-standard functional parts of the device or filters

The right time to replace the industrial membrane filter

If all the principles of maintaining and washing the industrial membrane filter are carried out at the right time, the average lifespan of the best membrane filter models will be between 2 and 4 years.

In addition, the membrane filter is a consumable part in water treatment devices and must be replaced after the specified period. The membrane filter replacement operation must be performed by specialists so that the housing, pressure cells, and the filter membrane are not damaged.

Membrane filters are placed inside a tubular chamber called a housing or perserocell, which consists of several thin layers that wrap around a plastic tube. The number of these thin layers may be up to 30 layers or more, depending on the model and brand of the industrial membrane filter.

Membrane filters are placed in perserocells in a series. In industrial water purification devices, the number of membrane filters will vary depending on the capacity of the device and the type of incoming water.
